Summer, and getting that love back.
I woke up this morning totally excited about work for the first time in AGES.
Lately I’ve been so busy that everything seems to be on autopilot. You know that feeling where you’re just going through the motions? That’s me.
Averaging about 3 shoots a day at the moment, it’s been pretty hard to keep up my creativity and enthusiasm, when I know that back in the office I’m just adding another shoot to the 11 I need to edit before the end of the week. My eyes are strained and my brain is muddled, and I’m one cup of coffee away from delirium.
But. Last week I came across the work of Mike Hill, an amazing photographer from Waihi Beach. Mike takes a photo a day, no matter what. He’s up to Day 1046 and counting, and his images have totally inspired me. I’ve got that love back.
It’s been so long since I’ve taken my camera out to shoot my own life, which is crazy. Sometimes the last thing I want to do at the end of a long day shooting students or food, is pick up my camera again and document what’s going on around me!
So when I discovered Mike and his ‘one photo a day’ project, I realised that taking photos in my own life is the key to getting that groove back. One photo a day that can be completely different from anything you’ve been shooting all day. Where it doesn’t matter if it’s not technically perfect, or if the client will like it or not – because the client is me!
So. I’m starting today. You’ll be seeing a lot more of my life on my blog and Facebook – but I’m cool with that! I like you guys. You are what drives me to take better photos every day. And I hope that it will inspire you, like Mike has inspired me.
Above is last night’s impromptu barbeque. Summer is on it’s way and I can’t wait to get out there and photograph it!
